About Me

About Me

Subrata Basu, an architect, and an urban planner, is a watercolor and photography enthusiast. He graduated from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur with an undergraduate degree in architecture and received his master’s degrees in Architecture and Urban Planning from the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. After a long and successful career in public sector, he retired to join the United States Peace Corps to continue to serve people. Today he continues to stay involved in the local community serving in a variety of capacities.

While he never had any formal training, painting and photography have always been activities he has enjoyed since his high school years. Growing up, he has been fortunate to have mentors and teachers who encouraged him to pursue his interest in art. His architecture training complemented his ability to develop a sense of context, composition, design, balance in his paintings and photography. He is inspired by nature and South Florida provides a rich and vibrant environment to draw inspiration from. Through his work he explores the relationship between nature and the man-made world and tries to capture the emotion, harmony and balance that exist all around us.

Busy career and other obligations kept Subrata from being fully immersed in his painting and photography. However, in recent years, he has been able to participate in workshops and various art classes at the Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden to pursue his interest and continue to tell stories through his art.

Subrata is a Signature member of the Miami Watercolor Society and a member of the Florida Watercolor Society. He is a past member of Kendall Camera Club. He is a Past President of Rotary Club of South Miami, and a  Past Board member of the Tropical Audubon Society. He is a member of South Miami Planning Board, and a member of Miami-Dade County Land Acquisition Selection Committee. In his spare time, he likes traveling, cooking, visiting grandchildren and playing golf.
